Formed in 1975 and more than 72,000 members strong, the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) is the nation’s only organization that represents and serves the professional interests of all EMS practitioners, including paramedics, emergency medical technicians, emergency medical responders, and other professionals providing prehospital and out-of-hospital emergent, urgent or preventive medical care.

NAEMT members work in all sectors of EMS, including government service agencies, fire departments, hospital-based ambulance services, private companies, industrial and special operations settings, and in the military.

NAEMT serves its members by advocating on issues that impact their ability to provide quality patient care, providing high quality education that improves the knowledge and skills of practitioners, and supporting EMS research and innovation.

The National Association of EMS Physicians® (NAEMSP®) was formed in 1984 to serve as a resource and advocate for EMS physicians and EMS professionals. Since its inception, NAEMSP® membership has grown from a handful of dedicated founders from a cross-section of the U.S., to over 1,000 physicians, paramedics, nurses, administrators, educators, researchers and key EMS personnel.

As part of its ongoing commitment to improving out-of-hospital emergency medical care, the NAEMSP® promotes meetings, publications and products that connect, serve and educate its members. The Association also serves as resource and advocate of EMS-related decisions in partnership with organizations and federal agencies.

As EMS systems continue to grow and develop, many have lost the perspective that EMS is the practice of medicine, by medical personnel, in the out-of-hospital setting. Since EMS physicians emanate from various disciplines - such as emergency medicine, family practice, pediatrics, surgery and cardiology - and non-physician ems personal encompass an unlimited range of professional backgrounds, NAEMSP® continues to coordinate and focus advances in medical care, research and training in each of these fields as they relate to EMS.

Before the American Heart Association existed, people with heart disease were thought to be doomed to complete bed rest — or destined to imminent death.

But a handful of pioneering physicians and social workers believed it didn’t have to be that way. They conducted studies to learn more about heart disease, America’s No. 1 killer. Then, on June 10, 1924, they met in Chicago to form the American Heart Association — believing that scientific research could lead the way to better treatment, prevention and ultimately a cure. The early American Heart Association enlisted help from hundreds, then thousands, of physicians and scientists.

“We were living in a time of almost unbelievable ignorance about heart disease,” said Paul Dudley White, one of six cardiologists who founded the organization.

In 1948, the association reorganized, transforming from a professional scientific society to a nationwide voluntary health organization composed of science and lay volunteers and supported by professional staff.

Since then, the AHA has grown rapidly in size and influence — nationally and internationally — into an organization of more than 33 million volunteers and supporters dedicated to improving heart health and reducing deaths from cardiovascular diseases and stroke.

The Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM) is dedicated to the improvement of care of the acutely ill and injured patient by improving research and education. To achieve this mission, SAEM influences health policy through forums, publications, interorganizational collaboration, policy development, and consultation services for physicians, teachers, researchers, and students. SAEM represents excellence and leadership in academic emergency medicine, and its values include idealism and quality in all endeavors, nurturing and camaraderie and diversity among members, as well as creative and symbiotic interactions with other organizations.

SAEM provides administrative support to the Association of Academic Chairs of Emergency Medicine (AACEM) and to the SAEM journals, Academic Emergency Medicine (AEM) and Academic Emergency Medicine Education and Training (AEM E&T). SAEM is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization and is headquartered in Des Plaines, Illinois.

The Air Medical Physician Association (AMPA) is the largest professional organization of physicians dedicated to rotor wing (helicopter), fixed wing (airplane) and critical care ground transport. With over 400 members nationally and internationally the Association represents extensive expertise in the field of medical transport. Our members represent many medical specialties including Emergency Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and various Surgical Subspecialties.
The Florida College of Emergency Physicians (FCEP) is the most progressive Emergency Medicine organization in Florida.

FCEP was provided its charter in 1972 by ACEP to form a separate independent chapter. Dr. William Haeck, FCEP’s first president, worked diligently to form the membership of FCEP, which would grow into the hundreds in the early 70s. Today, there are over 1,500 practicing emergency physicians in Florida who see and treat close to 7 million patients each year. This number will continue to grow with 14 emergency medicine residency programs in Florida.

FCEP represents the interests of all patients by identifying legislative and regulatory priorities each year to address in the Florida House and Senate. We represent the practicing emergency physicians on reimbursement issues, PIP, ACO’s, trauma, injury prevention, and EMS to name a few. FCEP has a demonstrated track record of protecting the rights of patients and the profession of emergency medicine. There are many FCEP committees through which members can get involved.

In 1990, FCEP leaders had the wisdom to create a sister organization – Florida Emergency Medicine Foundation (FEMF) – which would serve as the educational arm to FCEP. FCEP and FEMF work in partnership to identify and provide cutting edge educational programs to the broad based emergency medicine community, including simulation education.
The Florida Association of EMS Medical Directors (FAEMSMD) is dedicated to promoting the practice of EMS medical direction in Florida. It serves as a resource for local EMS medical directors and agencies, providing the latest news and information in EMS medical direction. FAEMSMD serves as a forum for exchange of ideas on best serving the people of Florida through the most advanced and highest quality EMS and pre-hospital care. FAEMSMD is also an advocate on behalf of EMS medical directors to policy makers in the Florida Legislature and state agencies.

FAEMSMD meets quarterly at the State EMS meetings held by the Department of Health, Bureau of EMS. FAEMSMD is a member of the State EMS Advisory Council as well as the Medical Director Advisory Panel, which advises the State EMS Medical Director on statewide EMS issues.

For 38 years, FEMA's mission remains: to lead America to prepare for, prevent, respond to and recover from disasters with a vision of "A Nation Prepared."

On April 1, 1979, President Jimmy Carter signed the executive order that created the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).  From day one, FEMA has remained committed to protecting and serving the American people. That commitment to the people we serve and the belief in our survivor centric mission will never change.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
